I have nothing to do with garment factory owner’s attack – State Minister

Power and Energy State Minister Indika Anuruddha said in Parliament yesterday that he urged the people who accused him with regard to the attack on the garment factory owner in Katana, should make a statement in this regard out of Parliament if they have a backbone.

He said that his privileges have been breached by the reports published by several national newspapers mentioning his name in an incident where there is no even complaint. Therefore I request the Speaker to call these national newspapers and its officials before the Privileges Committee and look into the matter. State Minister Indika Anuruddha said so while raising an issue of privilege. He said that some people are making baseless accusations against him in order to protect the voter base.

“If someone wants to accuse anyone, he or she would have done so with the relevant documents to prove the allegations. If the Opposition has such documents, I challenge the Opposition to prove it,” he said.

The State Minister further said the officials of the boards of directors in the company have not filed a complaint anywhere that they were threatened by me. As soon as I came to know about this incident, I informed the Foreign Affairs Minister in this regard. He said that the investor should not be influenced by any incident as he is valuable to the country.

Following the request of the Foreign Affairs Minister, I called the company and informed them to do justice, and arrangements have been made to arrest the people involved in the incident also. They were presented to the identification parade. Further investigations have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department and that trust was given to the investor.

The attack on the apparel factory owner is a result of an internal issue within the company and it will take some time to uncover information on the internal issue.
