Swedish Culinary Icons Partner with Sri Lanka at Goldi Sands Hotel

Renowned Swedish Master Chef and celebrated television personality Per Morberg, together with distinguished Swedish Master Baker Martin, visited Sri Lanka on a special culinary and trade mission aimed at strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and the Nordic region.

The duo, who have jointly authored 14 cookery books published in Sweden, are widely respected culinary figures across Scandinavia. During their visit, they entered into a strategic partnership with a Sri Lankan company to produce authentic Sri Lankan spices and premium tea leaves tailored specifically for the Swedish market. The collaboration is expected to generate valuable employment opportunities locally, enhance export growth, increase foreign exchange earnings, and further establish Sri Lanka as a premium sourcing destination for high-quality agricultural products.

Per Morberg, born in Stockholm in 1960, has built a distinguished career spanning more than four decades and is widely recognized as one of Sweden’s most charismatic actors, television personalities, and culinary experts. Known for his emotional intensity and authentic culinary style, Morberg’s visit marked a meaningful cultural and gastronomic exchange between Sweden and Sri Lanka.

A key highlight of the visit took place on Friday, 20th February 2026 at 10.00 a.m. at Goldi Sands Hotel, Negombo, where Per Morberg conducted a live culinary session alongside Executive Chef Jagath Prasanna. During the event, Chef Morberg prepared traditional Sri Lankan dishes using locally sourced spices and ingredients, presenting them to foreign guests staying at the hotel. The live demonstration showcased the richness, aroma, and diversity of Sri Lankan cuisine, offering international visitors an authentic taste experience.

The session symbolized a vibrant fusion between Scandinavian culinary artistry and Sri Lanka’s spice-driven food heritage. Beyond gastronomy, the collaboration aims to position Sri Lanka — particularly Negombo — as a distinctive culinary destination for Swedish and Nordic travelers.

Morberg’s genuine and expressive engagement with Sri Lankan cooking techniques and flavors generated strong international interest, further strengthening tourism and trade relations between the two nations.
