The Global Packaging Congress 2025, themed “Packaged to Perfection,” concluded successfully on 30th October at the BMICH, Colombo, with over 300 participants representing more than 50 member countries of the World Packaging Organization (WPO) from 5 continents.
Organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging (SLIP) in collaboration with the World Packaging Organization, the Congress served as a key highlight of Packaging Week 2025, which also featured the Lankapak Exhibition, WPO Board Meetings, and the Sri Lanka Packaging Awards.
The event brought together global and local leaders from across the packaging, manufacturing, and sustainability sectors to discuss key themes such as circularity in packaging, innovation, education, and the path toward sustainable industrial growth.
Highlights and Key Sessions
Distinguished speakers included Luciana Pellegrino, President of WPO; Nerida Kelton, Vice President Sustainability & Save Food, WPO; Ali Badarneh of UNIDO; Dr. Thusitha Sugathapala, Senior Technical Expert, SLYCAN Trust; and Dilhan C. Fernando, Chairman & CEO of Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC.
The forum also featured Mr. Johann Tranchell Secretary Industrial Affairs and Lahiru Wijerathna Assistant General Secretary of Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging, who shared insights on local sustainability initiatives, and Johannes Bergmair, General Secretary of WPO, who emphasized the importance of packaging education and global collaboration.
The sessions were effectively moderated by Mr. Lakshan Madurasinghe, Mr. Thushantha Karunanayake and Mr. Johann Tranchell, who guided engaging discussions on sustainability, innovation, and circularity in packaging. Each moderator skillfully brought together perspectives from industry leaders, brand owners, policymakers, and academia, ensuring a dynamic exchange of ideas and actionable insights for the future of packaging.
