Prime Lands Residencies PLC (PLR), Sri Lanka’s leading real estate developer, announced the appointment of Professor Ananda Jayawardane as an Independent Non‑Executive Director to the Board, effective 4 September 2025.
The appointment strengthens PLR’s commitment to world class corporate governance and strategic growth as the company expands its portfolio and sets new benchmarks in operational excellence.
Prof. Jayawardane is a distinguished academic leader and corporate personality bringing deep expertise in corporate governance, strategy, risk management, technology management, project management, ESG, and talent development, all critical areas for PLR’s next phase of growth.
Currently he is a Senior professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, a Non-Executive Director of HNB Assurance PLC and Mother Lanka Foundation and also serves as a member of the Stakeholder Engagement Committee of the Central Bank and member of Corporate Governance Committee of CA Sri Lanka.
Prof. Jayawardane’s knowledge will support PLR in navigating evolving market dynamics, embedding sustainability, integrating innovation within the business model, and positioning the company for continued success in Sri Lanka’s competitive real estate sector.
As the former Chairman of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, he successfully guided the institution through some of the most challenging periods in the institution’s history. His career spans leadership roles including Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, Director General of the National Science Foundation, and service on the governing boards of numerous public and private sector organisations.
He is a Chartered Engineer and International Professional Engineer, with fellowships at the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, Institute of Project Managers Sri Lanka, and National Academy of Sciences Sri Lanka. He also holds memberships with the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors, Sri Lanka Association for Advancement of Science, and Society of Structural Engineers Sri Lanka. He is also Past NDB Bank Endowed Professor in Entrepreneurship at the University of Moratuwa and Past President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
Prof. Jayawardane holds a BSc Engineering (Civil) with first class honours from University of Moratuwa (1983), MSc in Construction from Loughborough University of Technology, UK (1986), and PhD in Construction Management from the same university (1990).’
