A popular actress recently lodged a complaint with the Boralesgamuwa Police via telephone regarding a domestic dispute. When a police sergeant and two constables attached to the Criminal Investigations Division went to her residence to investigate, her husband reportedly assaulted the sergeant.
The injured police sergeant is currently receiving inpatient treatment at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, where he has required stitches near his left eye and has sustained injuries to his neck and eye area.
Reports indicate that although the husband launched an unexpected attack on the officers, including the armed police sergeant, the officers refrained from retaliating with their firearms. Instead, they acted appropriately under the circumstances, ensuring the situation did not escalate further.
The sergeant, who sustained injuries with significant bleeding, along with the other officers, prioritized subduing and arresting the suspect rather than responding with violence or retribution. This approach reflects restraint and professionalism, despite historical instances of excessive force in similar situations.
This incident underscores a marked contrast to past allegations against police officers involving excessive use of force or unlawful shootings during arrests. If firearms had been misused in this instance, the family dispute could have ended with the suspect’s death or permanent disability.
