The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has decided to blacklist the vehicles that have not obtained revenue licenses for five consecutive years and remove them from the information system of the DMT.<\/p>\n
DMT Commissioner General Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe said it has been decided to blacklist nearly 2 million vehicles that have not been renewed licenses. However, the registered owners of those vehicles can leave the blacklist after renewing their registrations.<\/p>\n
Accordingly, the district inspectors of the DMT have been deployed to detect vehicles that have not obtained revenue licenses for more than 5 years and the local government bodies have been notified to provide information in this regard. Once the information is received, particular vehicles will be removed from the system. Although 9 million vehicles have currently been registered with the Department, only 6 million vehicles have been registered through the QR code system, he said.
